Blecon modems rely on Blecon hotspots to connect to the cloud. You will need a Blecon hotspot that's within range in order for your Blecon modem to send and receive messages.

Fortunately, most devices can function as a Blecon hotspot with the Blecon App. Blecon apps are available for:

  • Android

  • iOS

  • macOS

  • Windows

Alternatively, you can set up a Blecon Hub, which is a dedicated Blecon hotspot.

Use the Blecon App to set up a hotspot

The Blecon App is available for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows devices in their respective app stores. Follow the device-specific instructions below to install the Blecon App:

  1. Follow this in the iOS App Store

  2. Tap "Get" then verify with Face ID/Touch ID or your passcode to download and install.

  3. Launch the app and grant the Blecon App permissions to use Bluetooth and Location Services.

  1. Follow this in the Google Play Store

  2. Tap "Install" to download and install it on your device

  3. Launch the app and grant the Blecon App permissions to use Bluetooth and Location.

  1. Follow this in the Mac App Store

  2. Tap "Get" then verify with Touch ID or your passcode to download and install.

  3. Open the app and grant the Blecon App permissions to use Bluetooth and Location Services.

  1. Follow this on the Microsoft App Store

  2. Click "Get" to download and install the app

  3. Launch the app and grant the app permission to use Bluetooth and Location

Use the Blecon Hub to set up a hotspot

Connect Power to the Blecon Hub

First, slide up the back panel to remove it.

Powering over USB

The Blecon Hub has a Type-C connector to receive USB power. Connect a USB cable from the Blecon Hub to either a Type-C or Type-A USB socket.

Powering over PoE

Connect an Ethernet cable from either a PoE switch or a PoE Injector

  • PoE Switch: If using a PoE switch, simply plug the Ethernet cable into the PoE port on the switch and the other end into the Blecon Hub.

  • PoE Injector: For PoE injectors, connect the power supply to the injector and plug it into a wall outlet. One Ethernet port on the injector will be for the data input - connect this to your switch or router. The other Ethernet port is for the PoE output. Connect this port to the Blecon Hub.

That's it! The Hotspot does not require manual configuration and will start operating once it is plugged in.

Connectivity

Plug an Ethernet cable into the socket in the back of the Hub.

If no Ethernet cable is connected, the hub will automatically attempt to connect via cellular.

Next Steps

The is a dedicated Blecon hotspot designed to provide permanent Blecon connectivity in a specific location. The Blecon Hub provides exactly the same functionality as the hotspot apps.

Now that you have a working hotspot set up, .
